With high-end gaming rigs becoming the "wave of the future", the hardcore gamer needs a power supply that can meet or exceed his/her expectations and provide clean, steady power. NZXT, a company likely best known for their computer cases, has offered us here at PCApex the opportunity to review a new PSU that they offer that appears to fit the bill. It uses some technologies that sound great on paper, now let us see if it truly stacks up.
The Package
I am sure all of us have seen the brown box by now so unless there is considerable damage to the shipped carton, I feel it isn't necessary to show it. So I give you a shot of the manufacturer's box.
From a graphic design standpoint, the box is attractive and layed out well showing the specifications on the back and sides. What is shown there is also listed below in the manufacturers specifications.
The Beef (it's what's for dinner)
Before getting to the specifications of the power supply, here are some pics of the unit and all of it's connectors. First is the contents of the box:
Next is the body of the unit, the back, and the label:
Now you might be able to tell that this is quite the reflective surface (and super sexy too), so here is another shot just showing off the reflectiveness. The camera cannot truely capture how it looks in person though.
Here are the connectors. First is the ATX connector (20+4) which is sheathed in black although not fully and the PCI-e connectors. Notice the PCI-e connectors look like the original Ultra X-Connect cables. They are about that stiff as well. Second is the 12v power (4+4) and molex connectors for fans only which is a novel concept. Third is the device molex connectors, and fourth are the SATA connectors.
