Intro

How excited can one person possibly get about writing a new review? Well, unless you’ve had a private message from the Lead Reviewer, BigAkita, asking if you’re up to the task of reviewing a new product from mnpctech, you won’t even come close to guessing. That’s what happened to me just a short time ago when I was offered a “sneak peek” at one of their newest computer modification products. Considering the quality of work that comes out of their shop, this was going to be some of the best fun I’ve ever had doing a review.

The product I was to review is the 92mm Custom Billet fan grill kit. Curious as to what the fan grill kit was going to look like, I asked the owner of mnpctech, Bill, a few questions. Here’s what he had to say…

“I'm designing and manufacturing my own line of machined billet aluminum parts and accessories, I call it my "mnpctech pro-line" series. The "mnpctech blowhole kit" is the first accessory to be launched. Other mod accessories to be released are solid billet aluminum handles, radiator grills and air intake bezels for a select number of Lian Li cases. The "mnpctech pro-line" series will be another milestone for case mod products. I believe we've reached a time in this industry that you can successfully manufacturer mod accessories in the United States. People are paying more for quality made cases and modding products. It's inevitable that products made here will be copied overseas, but the quality will never equal the heart and soul that went into the original. Made in the USA!”

Specs

The specifications of the Custom Billet fan grill are pretty interesting itself. While most companies would cut corners with a plastic rim covered with a chrome film, the Customs Billet fan grill is made of some of the strongest 6061 T-6 billet aluminum out there which means that this product is not only durable, but meant to last for years to come. At this time, the Custom Billet fan grill only come in polished aluminum but there may be variations some time in the future. The only size available right now is for a 92mm blowhole.

Package

The Custom Billet fan grill arrived via UPS in a non-descript yellow cushion mailer that was slightly roughed up but not to worry, everything weathered the journey in great shape mainly due to it’s composition but also because of the way the grill had been packaged. It might be enough for some companies to simply toss the grill into the mailer but this one arrived tightly wrapped in plastic to prevent the grill from moving around and scratching up the rim. That in itself was a pretty nice touch on the part of mnpctech to make sure that the product arrives in the same shape it was sent out in.

Hooray! I’m always the one to expect a company to include directions with their products that even the most novices of computer builders can understand. With this product, you would believe that instructions were not needed. Fortunately, a series of very basic installation instructions were included that listed the tools needed for the job and the order of steps needed to take to properly install the fan grill.

Also included in the package was a center grill, a rubber u-channel fan silencer, and four socket fasteners. Looking at the product, you’ll notice that there are a total of eight socket fasteners shown. If you were terrified at the prospect of having to get eight holes lined up correctly much less the standard four, never fear. The other four socket fasters that are already installed on the grill rim have been cut down to be flush with the underside of the rim. So, while giving it a sturdier, industrial look with the eight socket fasteners showing, you’ll only have to drill the standard four holes to mount the grill.
