Since August of 2000 OCZ has been manufacturing high quality ram for the computing enthusiast. Since that time they have branched out to make other high quality computer components that are often considered second to none. On many occasions over the years OCZ has been first to market with many new products.
Today's review item will be OCZ's 150X 2GB Secure Digital flash memory card. Most commonly used in cameras, SD cards are also used in PDAs, cell phones, GPS units and MP3 players as well as some other electronic devices I'm sure I missed. Because of these uses, speed, capacity and reliability are all important factors when deciding on which flash memory to buy.
The card is nothing special to look at but it is an SD Flash Card after all and there isn't much that can be done to improve its looks. It would be like making a floppy disk flashy...what's the point. Besides, when in use it will be completely hidden from sight. The important thing on an item like this is it's performance. Let's see what we can do with this thing.
The test beds for this review will be my Konica Minolta DiMage Z5 5 Megapixel digital camera and a SanDisk 12 in 1 Flash Memory Card Reader/Writer. To measure speed and performance on the computer I used HD Tach RW v.3.0.1.0. As you can see from the chart below at the lowest resolution and picture quality this card will hold an amazing 14,323 pictures and even at the highest resolution and quality it will hold 773 shots. That's the equivalent of more than 21 rolls of 36 exposure film. Please keep in mind that these numbers are calculated and can vary as you take pictures. Video ranges between 23 minutes to over 1 hour.
