Since the Phenom will run on AM2 will you (or do you) use an AM2 setup?
I already am on AM2 and plan to stay.
I was already planning to move to AM2.
I am moving to AM2 because it will support the Phenom.
I am waiting till the Phenom is out for a while but will consider it.
I am an AMD Fanboy.
I am an Intel Fanboy.
I am not considering an AM2 setup at all.
I don't care as long as I can get my email.

Buffalo FireStix PC2-8000 2GB DDR2 RAM Kit

Real-Time Pricing

FireStix ...is that a great name for overclocker's ram or what? In mid 2004 Buffalo Technology released the first FireStix branded RAM and since that time Buffalo has managed to keep pace with the ever increasing demand for performance memory. FireStix is designed to not only meet the needs of the latest motherboards and processors, but to exceed it. FireStix gives overclockers the means to tweak out every iota of CPU performance without sacrificing memory performance. Today we look at the FireStix PC28000CL5 2GB kit. While this isn't the absolute fastest ram produced by Buffalo, it is the fastest 2-gig matched kit available.

Specs

The specs are as follows (as taken from the Buffalo Firestix Product page):

Specifications

- Part# FSX1000D2C-K2G
- 2x1G
- 4-bank
- Timings 5-5-5
- 2.1V

Description

When performance counts, FireStix delivers. FireStix modules enhance PC performance and maximize stability, while allowing over-clocking of the memory bus. This eliminates bottlenecks and enables ultimate data transfer efficiency. In addition, the heat-spreading, aluminum cooling skin extends RAM life while facilitating faster memory bus speeds for superior performance in gaming and over-clocking environments. These performance-enhancing features make FireStix the preeminent solution for lightning-fast PC's.

*DDR FireStix require a minimum of 2.1 volts (Vdimm or memory voltage) to be set in the BIOS. by the user with the initial boot, after installing FireStix in your computer.

Features

- Lifetime Warranty
- Aluminum heat spreader with thermally-conductive adhesive
- Extremely high over-clocking capabilities and extended RAM life
- Exceptional performance in latest gaming motherboards
- ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and RoHS Compliant

Package

Considering it survived two shipping's without a scratch, packing must have been adequate. The retail package is pretty tame letting the FireStix's good looks speak for itself. The Buffalo logo is understated, the FireStix logo is superbly done, and the red color of the heat spreaders is just sexsay. Aesthetics is probably the least important feature in RAM; but these are good looking sticks.

I'd pull off the heat spreaders and get the RAM all naked for you, but the heat spreaders are attached using a thermal adhesive. So we will keep the show PG-rated and be content with the knowledge that the FireStix will be cooled as Buffalo has intended. Not so long ago heat spreaders were thought to be akin to dressing a pig, it's silly and it annoys the pig. But with proper cooling, any components life span can be extended, and that's a good thing.
