Since the Phenom will run on AM2 will you (or do you) use an AM2 setup?
I already am on AM2 and plan to stay.
I was already planning to move to AM2.
I am moving to AM2 because it will support the Phenom.
I am waiting till the Phenom is out for a while but will consider it.
I am an AMD Fanboy.

Intro

If you’re a hardcore overclocker, you probably already have, or want to have some form of fan control unit. It is a well-known fact that having a load of fans usually means you have one noisy rig! PCMods has been well known for manufacturing high quality products, and this tradition continues with their latest fan control unit, the UltraBright RheoBus Kit. Today, we’ll be taking a look at this lovely unit sent to us by our friends over at TweakBox!

The Unit

The unit arrived in perfect condition and in its usual small square shaped box. When I opened up the box, the parts that were included were:

  • The RheoBus
  • Installation Instructions
  • 4 Knobs
  • 4-Pin Molex Y-Connector
  • Washers & Nuts
  • Drilling Template
  • LED Mounting Supplies
  • Protective Padding

Once taken out of the box, there were a few rather noticeable things. The first is that the unit is actually mounted on a PCB. Unlike most other kits, this one does not have wires running all over, and coming out of the rheostats. Everything needed comes pre-soldered to the PCB! Each one of these rheostats can handle 17 watts of power! Now, I don’t know about you, but that is a lot of wattage. If you were to total it up, you can safely put fans pulling a total of 68 watts on this unit! Wow! Since PCMods went all out on the wattage rating for the rheostats, they had to do something else. That something else is the Ultra Bright LED’s! These are definitely a nice touch, especially since they are blue, and blue is my favorite color. The last thing that stands out at first is the 4 big, black, and beautiful heatsinks to keep the transistors cool with all that power running through them. The unit itself is powered through a 4-Pin Male Molex connector on the back right corner of the PCB. In case you are out of connectors, PCMods includes a Y-Cable. Also mounted in the rear of the PCB is the connection terminal. This is where you take your stripped wires, slide them in, then tighten the screw on top to finish off the connection. The terminals are also marked with “RED” and “BLACK” so you know which wires to put where, nice touch.
