Logitech X-540 5.1 Surround Sound PC Speakers

Real-Time Pricing

If I had money to burn, I would probably have a mansion on the hill and my computer speakers would probably be a set of Logitech® Z-5450 Digital 5.1 Speakers. Unfortunately, most of us simply can't afford a set of $500+ speakers. Fortunately, you don't have to take out a second mortgage to get a set of good 5.1 speakers. With the Logitech X-540 5.1 Surround Sound speaker set, Logitech follows in the footsteps of the very popular Z-540's. A speaker set renowned for its modest cost and exceptional performance.

The X-540 set would appear to be a mostly cosmetic upgrade to the existing X-530's. The specs are nearly identical to the slightly lower priced model. All the satellite speakers are still a dual driver design but now have a cleaner, more sophisticated look and a sexier grille design. The volume control has been moved from its position on front of one of the speakers to a independent controller module and the 540's sport a completely reworked down-firing ported subwoofer. It makes for a nice alternative to the cost effective 530's without having to pony up for the Z-xxxx series which begins at twice the price.

Specifications

Here is the info on the Logitech X-540 Speaker setup as taken from the product page at the Logitech website:

Overview
Immerse yourself in the game with adrenaline-pumping surround sound. The X-540 speakers use FDD2™ (Frequency Directed Dual Driver) technology to produce a uniform sound field anywhere in the room.  Immerse yourself in the game using the selectable 'matrix mode,' which automatically creates 5.1 surround sound from common 2-channel stereo sources.  The compact satellites are wall-mountable, and and a special clip lets you place the center channel speaker on top of most flat-panel monitors to reduce desktop clutter. Use the wired control center to control volume and bass levels or connect headphones to enjoy your games and music privately.

Package

The package arrived none the worse for its journey. The retail package reflects the familiar Logitech logo's blue-green and orange coloring. All the pertinent info is displayed in several languages. Inside the box is probably the most efficient packing I've ever seen. Someone gave this a great deal of thought in order to fit all these components into such a confined space. Once you take all the pieces out, you'll never get them back in without a PhD in Advanced Jigsaw Puzzles.
